She is a symbol of strength in the face of patriarchal violence, her tragic death a poignant testament to bravery. She tells the story of women who refuse to be silenced, their courage illuminating the path towards liberation and equality. 

Masha Amini died in 2022, while in custody of Iran's Guidance Control for 'improper clothing'. She wore her hijab the wrong way. Her death caused a global outrage and instigated a widespread protest. 

I chose to paint her with long flowing hair, which all woman should be free to have if they desire to. Her hijab is dissolving in butterflies while Masha is changing into stars. I aimed to honor her memory by portraying the freedom she deserved in life.
